The Soul Of The Great Bell
-Lafciado Herne-
(Poem Version by Alyssa Angel Yaranon)
The Son of Heaven, mighty Young-Lo
Commanded the worthy Kouan-Yu
Should have a bell made of such size
Thereof the sound be hear for one hundred li
Strengthened with brass, deepened with gold, and sweetened with silver metal
Should be suspended in all the centre of the imperial capital
Mandarin Kouan-Yu assembled the master moulders
All men are great and very clever
When the metal had been cast
Th earthen mould separate from the glowing crust
The metals had rebelled one against the other
The moulders had no more words to utter
The second and third time was a dismay
The Son of Heaven felt betray
Sent his words by his messenger
Kouan-Yu been threatened by a letter
Kouan-Yu's dazzling daughter
In the mouths of poets forever
Ko-Ngai, whose heart is beautiful
And also very cheerful
She loved her father than herself
Refused hundreds of suitors even she fell
Fainted with fear for his father's sake
Sold a lot of jewels for money to make
With the money obtained
To the astrologer she hastened
Paid him a great price for an advice
The astrologer study the Zodiaz Signs
Atlast came the awful day
Third and last effort was to be made
Kouan-Yu prepared to give the signal
He lifted his finger to be official
A cry cause him to turn his head
Teardrops on his eye are ready to be shed
She leaped into the white flood of metal
And the lava growled to receive her, dead nettle
The serving woman,, dizzy and speechless too
Holding in her hands, a danity shoe
Thought she grasp Ko-Ngai when she leaped
But only the shoe that has been caught and keep
The work they started has to be finished
The master-moulders has become more mannish
The bell was beautiful to look upon
A very amazing masterpiece to clap on
The sound utter a woman's name, Ko-Ngai
And would be heard for a thousand mile
People hear the sound, they kept in silence
Thought Ko-Ngai calling for her shoe in almightness.
